A WOMAN has claimed she was raped by a man who now identifies as a transgender woman at her home in Clydebank.

A trial at the High Court in Glasgow was told the 30-year-old was attacked by Adam Graham, now Isla Bryson, 31.

The court was told that the prosecution and defence had agreed in a joint minute that Adam Graham is a "dead name."

This was explained to be a name “a transgender person was given at birth and no longer uses upon transitioning”.

On Wednesday, jurors were told Bryson, of Clydebank, identifies as a woman and is in the process of starting gender reassignment surgery.

The joint minute further stated that Ms Bryson had sex with a woman on June 27, 2019, which she claims was consensual.

Ms Bryson denies separate charges of rape against two women at properties in Clydebank and Glasgow's Drumchapel.

She has lodged a special defence of consent.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place on September 16, 2016 and June 27, 2019.

Ms Bryson faces a further charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by allegedly telling one of the women to wash bedding and not to disclose what happened.

Ms Bryson is claimed to have told her she would threaten her family if she did so.

Ms Bryson faces a final charge of punching the other woman he is accused of raping on the body.

Jurors today watched pre-recorded evidence that the 30-year-old woman gave in July 2022.

She said that she matched with "Adam Graham" on dating site Badoo in July 2016.

She stated that the pair chatted every day and night online.

The witness claimed that she was told by Adam that he was being physically abused by a woman at the time.

The witness said that she offered to house Adam at her mum's property where she also lived until he was able to move into a homeless unit.

She stated that they met at her home and was "happy" to do so.

The woman claimed that Adam was a "loving, caring person" but it "slowly changed".

She added that her family had realised the change in Adam and there was "something wrong."

The witness said she told them she would "give him a chance" and was "head over heels in love" with him.

The woman stated she noticed Adam change when he shouted at a boy she was caring for at the property.

She said that Adam became angry at the smallest things which she thought was "ridiculous."

The woman stated that Adam moved to a homeless unit after a few weeks but that contact between them continued.

She said Adam would visit her home every Friday and would stay overnight.

The woman claimed on the night of the alleged rape that Adam locked the bedroom door and got in bed beside her.

The woman stated that she had his back to him at the time and he raped her.

She said: "Adam had sex with me...I just thought it was a cuddle."

The woman later added: "I thought Adam had come for a cuddle and at that moment everything felt weird and wrong. I didn't know what was going on."

She added that Adam pulled her pyjamas and underwear down then put his arm around her.

The woman stated she did not want this to happen but "muscular" Adam was strong and put "more effort" into it.

The witness said that she told Adam "no" multiple times, and to stop, but he did not.

She added: "I tried to push him off and tell him no."

The woman stated that Adam only stopped after her mum turned on the hallway light.

Court proceedings were halted after three breaks and the trial adjourned until Thursday.

Edward Targowski KC, defending, told the court that Bryson was "feeling unwell" on Tuesday and the feeling had carried into today.

The adovocate added that she would see her own doctor.

Judge Lord Scott told jurors: "It is unfortunate, but these things happen - anyone can take unwell.

"It is important that the accused can concentrate on the evidence and not be distracted or affected by not feeling well. I will grant the adjournment."
