West Dunbartonshire Council’s CCTV team has been nominated for an award.

The team is in the running for a Chief Constable’s Excellence Award under the category of Policing Partner of the Year.

The actions of the CCTV operators that led to the nomination included arranging lifesaving help for a vulnerable man who was spotted; identifying drug dealing, which led to an individual being traced and charged, and alerting authorities of a fire.

The council’s team was also able to direct help to a person who was attempting to take their own life.

Councillor Craig Edward said: “We are grateful to the CCTV operators for the work they do behind the scenes.

"This shows the true benefits of partnership working, and how by joining forces with organisations including the police and fire services we can ensure that West Dunbartonshire is a safe place for our residents to call home.”

Councillor John Millar believes that the job the team does is not an easy one.

He added: “They must be on alert at all times and take quick action to protect our residents.

“It is pleasing to hear that they have been recognised with a nomination for the work they do to support our partners.”

A spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Council added that the CCTV team has helped make communities safer.
