West Dunbartonshire Council’s CCTV team has been nominated for an award.
The team is in the running for a Chief Constable’s Excellence Award under the category of Policing Partner of the Year.
The actions of the CCTV operators that led to the nomination included arranging lifesaving help for a vulnerable man who was spotted; identifying drug dealing, which led to an individual being traced and charged, and alerting authorities of a fire.
The council’s team was also able to direct help to a person who was attempting to take their own life.
Councillor Craig Edward said: “We are grateful to the CCTV operators for the work they do behind the scenes. This shows the true benefits of a partnership working, and how by joining forces with organisations including the police and fire services we can ensure that West Dunbartonshire is a safe place for our residents to call home.”
Councillor John Millar believes that the job the team does is not an easy one.
He said: “They must be on alert at all times and take quick action to protect our residents.
“It is pleasing to hear that they have been recognised with a nomination for the work they do to support our partners.”
A spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Council added that the CCTV team has helped make communities safer.
