Clydebank Golf Club hosted one of the highlights of its calendar recently when members welcomed players for the annual Hardgate Open.

The strokeplay competition welcomed 250 golfers to the sun-baked course to compete for around £1,000 worth of prizes and the prestige of taking home the much-coveted golfing trophy.

The field was made up of 180 members alongside 70 visitors with Windyhill golfer Kieran Boyce coming out on top with a score of Nett 63.

Match Secretary John Stirling said afterwards: “The course was in excellent condition playing to its full length of over 5,800yds.

“Congratulations to Kieran who played some smashing golf.”

The host club did enjoy some winners on the day with the scratch winner awarded to Steven Stewart who shot an impressive 68 with James Devaney three shots further back in second and Angus McKay in third with a 72.

Thomas Cairney was first in the one to ten handicap category with a Nett 64 followed by William Baird and Danny Drew from Bellshill Golf Club,

For the 11 to 20 handicappers, Stephen Milligan of Milngavie came out on top with a Nett 66, with Clydebank’s Ian McCowat in second and Windyhill’s Francies Mckeever making up the top three.
