A FAIFLEY man was tasered into submission after he attempted to hit unwelcome cops with a baseball bat during an incident at his home.

Thomas Gallacher was boozing with his partner at a property on Orbiston Place on February 9, 2021, and at around 4.25am the 35-year-old became erratic.

Procurator fiscal Rebecca Reid told Dumbarton Sheriff Court on January 11 that his partner called police telling them that she ‘had locked herself in the bathroom’.

Ms Reid said the woman called 999 again, whilst officers were on route, and said they were no longer required because Gallacher had left the building.

Once cops arrived they made several attempts to enter the property but were stopped by the partner.

Ms Reid then told the court that once police had got the front door slightly ajar Gallacher was in the “fighting stance with his right had clenched by his side”.

Gallacher then told police: “I’ll punch you if you come in here” whilst holding a knife in his hand.

He then ran down the hallway towards officers with a baseball bat and attempted to swing. He was stopped when police deployed a taser on him.

Gallacher’s defence solicitor said: “On the day both had been drinking heavily. The partner’s degree of co-operation seriously reduced during that incident. There is no doubt that his behaviour was quite unacceptable.

“He has expressed regret and remorse for his misconduct and it’s not to his credit that his behaviour is consistent with a long pattern of behaviours over the years.

“He has suffered mental health problems and may have been acting on impulse.”

Sheriff William Gallacher said: “Let’s not beat around the bush, his behaviour was outrageous and how I should deal with is preposterous.”

The sheriff placed Gallacher on a community payback order with 18 months under social work supervision. He was also required to complete 120 hours of unpaid work in the community.
