House prices in West Dunbartonshire have risen - but the area still remains one of the cheapest places in Scotland to buy a house, according to new figures.

According to the latest figures from Walker Fraser Steele, the average house price in the local authority in October was £146,569, up from £143,566 in September.

The average price of a home in West Dunbartonshire in October was 9.7 per cent higher than 12 months previously - a slightly lower increase than the Scottish year-on-year average.

The cheapest average house price is in Na h-Eileanan Siar (the Western Isles) at only £132,910.

The City of Edinburgh at the top of the table, where a home costs on average £320,802.

The average house price in Scotland as a whole is £212,551, up by 11.4 per cent over the last 12 months.

Alan Penman, business development manager at Walker Fraser Steele, said: "Sales volumes from May to October 2021 are only slightly ahead of previous years, and suggest that the market has now returned to pre-pandemic transaction levels.

"Nevertheless, the continuing strong performance in October means Scotland had the highest annual rate of house price growth of the four home nations with annual growth at 11.4 per cent, followed by Northern Ireland at 10 per cent (Ulster University Index), Wales at 9.6 per cent and England, without Wales, at 3.9 per cent."
