A YOUTH charity reached out to three Clydebank celebrities after a foodbank were "blown away" by the increase in Christmas referrals.

Youth charity Y Sort It has reached out to Clydebank funnyman Kevin Bridges, Scotland player John McGinn and business tycoon Duncan Bannatyne on social media for their help in the Christmas Toybank campaign.

West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare are searching for more donations after referrals to the service rose to more than 1,200 people.

The award-winning charity started collecting new toys, gifts and selection packs for young people aged up to 17 last month.

It is also looking for donations of food and toiletries to support local people experiencing poverty over the winter months.

A post by West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare read: "We knew this would be a very difficult winter for many local families but we’ve been blown away by the number of children referred to the toy bank - just risen over 1200.

"This is all families who will otherwise not be able to provide their children with toys to open on Christmas morning.

"Currently, we don’t have enough toys/gifts donated to cover all. Could you help us ensure every child receives support this year?

"We will be open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm, with some late evenings. Please call ahead to ensure we are open if popping in during the evening."

In Clydebank, donations can be dropped off at Dalmuir Library, the Royal Bank of Scotland in the Clyde Shopping Centre, B-Able in Alexander Street and Clydebank High School.

Donations can also be dropped off at the charity's Dumbarton base at Unit 21, Leven Valley Enterprise Centre, Castlehill, G82 5BN.
