A MAN who shouted abuse at a Clydebank primary school has a “real problem with women”.

Derek Sweeney repeatedly shouted and swore towards two members of staff at the school on October 29 and repeatedly struck a door there with his hand.

On the same day, he went into Kirkoswald Drive, despite bail conditions from May 2021 that he should not enter the street.

The 41-year-old, of Castle View, Clydebank, later admitted both offences and social work reports were prepared for his sentencing.

In October, Sweeney was put on a community payback order (CPO) for exposing and performing a sex act on himself on a train in view of a woman.

At Dumbarton Sheriff Court on November 30 for the school incident, Sweeney’s defence solicitor, Gail Campbell, said her client “doesn’t help himself”.

Sheriff David Hall replied: “That’s an understatement.”

Ms Campbell accepted: “He is on the cusp of custody.”

She said Sweeney had previously been invited to the property he was banned from approaching and set in motion a course of events that led to the school incident, where “he should not have acted” in that way.

She continued: “He could get a custodial sentence today. Social work has a very clear plan of what they intend to do. And that may just prevent him from going to custody.

“The circumstances of this matter are almost exasperating.”

Sheriff Hall said: “He seems to have a real problem with women - abuse of these two social workers, it’s flagged up in the report. It’s really concerning.”

He told Sweeney: These are serious matters and you have a bad record and there’s a worrying theme throughout this report that you have a bad attitude towards women.

“You have recently been put on a CPO with supervision and unpaid work. I’m not sending you to custody this morning. The author of the report seems to think there’s a plan in place, but that requires your full cooperation.”

Sheriff Hall imposed an additional CPO with a year of social work supervision and another 150 hours of unpaid work in the community in the next 10 months.

Sweeney is also under a curfew for the next six months to stay at home between 7pm and 7am each day.

He was warned if he breached the curfew in any way, he would be sent to jail.
