A DALMUIR teenager who assaulted her ex and a police officer in Drumry claimed she had no recollection of the incident.

Amy McAuley, of Caledonia Street, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing last week following the incident on November 17, 2020.

McAuley who was 18 at the time, previously admitted striking her former partner on the head at a property in Garscadden View.

The court heard that at some point on November 17, 2020, McAuley turned up “heavily intoxicated and highly emotional”.

She then repeatedly kicked a cop on the body, spat at her and tried to headbutt her, and assaulted two other officers by kicking them on the body.

McAuley’s solicitor told the court: “She takes exceptional responsibility for her actions despite not having a recollection of the events. She has clearly shown a level of remorse and recognises this was a very regretful event and perhaps if it wasn’t for her age I may be seeking to have an uphill battle to persuade you not to send her into custody.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry mentioned that McAuley is awaiting another sentencing for an assault to injury charge from May 18.

He said: “It is worrying nonetheless. She is a young mother about to move for the first time into her own property. That gives opportunities but also stresses.”

Addressing McAuley the sheriff said: “You say you have little or no memory of how you behaved, and that is because you drank so much alcohol.

“That puts things into context, but in no way acts as an excuse.

“You remain responsible for your actions, and your actions were deplorable towards the police officers. They were trying to do a job, and your reaction to them was completely beyond words.”

“I have thought about sending you to prison. I will just, and only just, hold back.”

The sheriff handed McAuley a community payback order with two years of social work supervision. She will also have to carry out 210 hours of unpaid work.
