A person has died after being struck by a train near a railway station in Clydebank.

Emergency services attended the scene at Singer station on Kilbowie Road just before 12 noon on Wednesday.

The incident meant no trains were initially running on the line between Westerton and Dalmuir.

Services have resumed on the line, but are not currently stopping at Singer.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed one person had died in the incident.

Residents reported a significant presence of crews at Singer station on Kilbowie Road on Wednesday after the incident.

A spokeperson for BTP said: "British Transport Police were called to Singer railway station at 11.48am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.  

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious."
