A Clydebank-based energy company has issued a statement to customers in a bid to reassure them after the collapse of six firms due to soaring gas prices.

Together Energy issued a statement to the Post saying its customers have "no need to be concerned" after six energy companies collapsed, affecting 1.5 million customers across the UK.

Avro Energy, People's Energy, Green Supplier Limited, Utility Point, PFP Energy and MoneyPlus Energy have all gone bust in the last two weels.

The latest two, Avro and Green Supplier, ceased trading on Wednesday. Their 830,000 combined customers face being switched to a new, potentially more expensive, provider.

Last month HUB Energy, which had 6,000 customers, also stopped trading.

A spokesperson for Together Energy, which employs 360 people at its Clydebank Business Park headquarters and other locations across the UK, said: "Together Energy is an industry leader in demand forecasting and since its inception, five years ago, has adopted a very prudent hedging and purchasing strategy.

"Unprecedented wholesale prices are impacting all energy suppliers, but Together Energy is well insulated to absorb the current increased costs through to the end of the year, in line with our current hedging policy.

"Our competitive tariffs are secure and there is no need for customers to be concerned."

The company says 83 students have gained part-time work during the pandemic through the firm's internship scheme.
