To celebrate National Fitness Day, we've pulled together six of the best fitness stories from across West Dunbartonshire, Helensburgh and Lomond.

National Fitness Day aims to highlight the role physical activity plays across the UK, helping to raise awareness of its importance in helping us lead healthier lifestyles through being physically active.

1. Parkhall’s Aidan Robb wins the first UK Teenage Strongman title

Aidan Robb decided to start going to his mum and dad’s gym when he was 15 to get in shape – but it was only when he became fascinated with the men completing strongman training that he found his calling.

He was named as the UK’s Teenage Strongman earlier this year.

2. Duntocher Black Stars coach proves it is more than just football with team

Football coach Robert Paterson set up the Duntocher Black Stars after seeing how children with disabilities weren’t being given the same opportunities in other clubs.

He aims to get the youngsters to meet people and develop their fitness skills.

3. The online Dumbarton fitness club with a difference​

Lynne Gorman set up her 'Clubbercise Clydebank and Dumbarton with Lynne' as a way for everyone to get out the lockdown blues through exercise with a twist - her classes incorporated music, disco lights, and glow sticks into each routine.

She wanted to keep the older population fit and happy during a difficult time.

4. Balloch fitness fanatic Joe McCready aimed for pull-up world record

Twenty-three-year-old Joe McCready attempted to set a new Guinness World Record for the most pull-ups in 24 hours in November last year.

His attempt was brought to an end, however, after a shoulder injury.

5. Helensburgh fitness marathon raised £2,500 for charity

Steve and Gail Losh, who own The Journey fitness centre on West Clyde Street, took part in a 12-hour fitness challenge to raise cash for Coeliac UK after their daughter was diagnosed with the condition.

The pair managed to raise more than £2,500 for the charity.

6. Helensburgh 10K proved to be a record-breaking run

Records were smashed in both the men’s and women’s events as the Babcock 10K Series got off to a spectacular start in Helensburgh in May 2019. There were a record 702 entries.
