A WHITECROOK drug dealer has been handed a community payback order after police discovered more than £500 worth of cocaine hidden in a cupboard in his kitchen.

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Waddell appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing last week having been charged with possession of a class A drug with intent to supply.

Friday's hearing was told that police attended an address in Whitecrook Street on March 6, 2020 with a drugs search warrant.

During a search of the property officers found a bag containing white powder inside a plastic container, which was hidden in a kitchen cupboard.

The powder later tested positive for cocaine and the 14 grams recovered were said to have an estimated maximum street value of £560.

Defence solicitor Phil Lafferty told the court: "This is a reasonably familiar story of a young man getting in deeply with his own habits and seeing an easy way out of a debt."

Waddell, of Brown Street, Clydebank, was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community within 12 months as punishment.

He will also be subject to supervision by the social work department for the same period.
