EXTRA cash is to be spent on road improvements in and around the Clydebank waterfront as part of the area's regeneration.

West Dunbartonshire councillors approved a plan this week to spend £780,000 in the area.

Most of the money - £580,000, to be precise - will be put towards the completion of Titan Boulevard, the pedestrian thoroughfare at the centre of the Queens Quay development.

And £139,000 will be used to carry out improvement work on Bruce Street, linking the Queens Quay site to Dumbarton Road.

The cash comes from the Scottish Government's Place Based Investment Fund - and more money from the fund is expected to come the way of West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) in the next few years.

Councillors on WDC's infrastructure, regeneration and economic development (IRED) committee approved a report recommending that Bruce Street and Titan Boulevard should receive most of the cash, with the remaining £61,000 to go on "other suitable projects in the town centre", though these have yet to be identified.

Councillor Diane Docherty, a Clydebank councillor and vice convener of the IRED committee, said: "This is great news for Clydebank, as these projects will truly benefit the town and enhance its environment.

"As always, the voice of our communities is vitally important and I’m glad to see that the next phase of funding will be decided upon in partnership with the Town Centre Forum, so that residents will have another opportunity to have their say."

The report considered by IRED this week says that future allocations to West Dunbartonshire from the fund have yet to be confirmed.

But it says that early projections estimate a further £2m from the fund will be allocated to WDC between now and 2026.
