A DISTRESSED woman is pleading for help after her house has been left swamped with human excrement.

Hazel King and three of her neighbours, who live in a block of cottage flats on Rotherwood Avenue in Knightswood, are begging for a pipe causing a flooding problem to be urgently replaced.

Hazel says she and her neighbours have been forced to dispose of the sewage that has flooded into their homes themselves - and says they feel as if they’ve been left abandoned by authorities.

Hazel told the Post: “My neighbour’s bath was covered, her toilet was covered.

“Her bath has now collapsed into the floor. It wouldn’t stop and just kept coming.

“The next day my downstairs neighbour suffered. His wall was soaked. We had to phone the fire brigade.

“It was like the River Clyde was pouring through his home. Our lives have been turned upside down.”

Each of the neighbours phoned Lowther Homes, who own the property, to seek help, but Hazel claims that nobody came out to see the block of four flats for more than a month.

She added: “They all said it was a priority, but no one of them came out. We had to pick up the poo ourselves.

“We’ve done the best we could, but when it is knee deep we are left to struggle.

“My house is now stinking because the heat is making it worse. Nobody is coming out to take responsibility.”

The 53-year-old resident said that an official from Lowther had installed CCTV at the property to assess the situation.

Hazel continued: “From the CCTV we were made aware that the pipe running through my property is broken. When asked to fix the situation we haven’t heard a word.”

A Lowther spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry for the delay in getting the drain fixed.

“Since the problem was first reported to us, we’ve cleared the drains three times. Scottish Water has also cleared the drains twice.

“A CCTV survey we carried out showed excavation work would be needed to get to the root of the problem.

“We’re in close contact with Scottish Water and they hope to get the excavation work carried out in the next few days as a matter of urgency.

“We’ll keep the owners in the block updated and hope to get this resolved by Scottish Water as soon as possible.”
