AN AMAZING 73-year association with the Clydebank Sea Cadets has earned George Troup praise in the Scottish Parliament.

George, 87, received the Captain’s Medal from the organisation earlier this month to mark his 56 years as an officer – though his link with the group goes all the way back to the day he joined as a boy in 1948.

A special ceremony was held by the Sea Cadets group at the Golden Jubilee Hotel to present George with his medal – and now MSPs at Holyrood have lined up to hail his years of service.

A motion of congratulation lodged at the Parliament by Clydebank’s MSP, Marie McNair, “notes that through his engineering skills, nautical flair, leadership, and kindness, he has supported many young people in Clydebank in paving better futures, and commends him for his great service”.

The motion has been signed by 13 MSPs from across Holyrood’s political divide.

Earlier this year George, who was named a British Empire Medal (BEM) recipient in 2015, told the Post his association with the Sea Cadets had been “a fantastic, wonderful time”, and said: “I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
