A CAR fire in broad daylight in a Clydebank street is being investigated by police.

Detectives are looking into the incident after the vehicle was found alight in Dock Street, behind Holm Park, around 12.20pm on Wednesday, August 25.

The circumstances of the fire are not yet known.

However, the incident comes after a series of wilful fire-raising incidents involving parked vehicles in the town earlier this year.

A van and small digger were torched near Lennox View in Radnor Park on July 15, and a mobile generator was set alight under the Erskine Bridge in Old Kilpatrick on July 12.

Eight parked cars were deliberately set alight in six separate incidents in Clydebank, Whitecrook, Drumry, Hardgate and Duntocher in the space of a month in March and April.

Referring to the latest incident, a Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called around 12.20pm on Wednesday, August 25 following the report of a car on fire on Dock Street, Clydebank.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire safely. There were no injuries.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1339 of Wednesday, August 25."
