A CLYDEBANK model is hoping for her home town to get behind her in her last competition.

Robyn Ferguson from Hardgate is representing West Dunbartonshire in the Miss Great Britain beauty pageant and would love to have the backing of her local community in the public vote.

The Miss West Dunbartonshire finalist had been working hard in her dream job as a flight attendant for Emirates since 2015, and travelling the world on a strict schedule meant that following any dreams of entering a pageant wasn’t possible.

At the time she decided to give Miss Great Britain a miss to focus on her career and explore the world – when suddenly her dreams were crushed because of the Covid pandemic.

Her proud mum Joanne told the Post: “She started pageants when she was 16.

“The fact she got to represent Scotland in these different countries has been a fantastic experience for her. It has built her confidence.

“She was quite a quiet girl. You would have never expected her to go on stage and walk about in a bikini.

“She has pulled herself out of her comfort zone. It has made a huge difference because the confidence it has given her has allowed to her follow her dreams of working for Emirates.”

After being made redundant she was given the opportunity to reapply for the Miss Great Britain competition - an offer she simply couldn’t refuse.

“She totally questioned what was happening in her life after being made redundant,” Joanne continued.

“She came back to Scotland so she could figure out what she wanted to do next..

“Covid was a bit of a blessing because the applications had closed but because of the pandemic they couldn’t hold the original date of the pageant, so they opened it again. It was fate playing her a card.”

In the past Robyn has won Miss Teen Galaxy Scotland, Miss Intercontinental Scotland, Miss Teen Euro Atlantic Commonwealth and came third place in Miss Teen Great Britain. She has competed internationally in Portugal, Chicago, London and Germany.

The 60-year-old added: “It’s her last chance because of her age. This is a tough competition as all the other girls are amazing.

“She is excited and nervous. She is working hard doing a lot of charity work for Cancer Research and is keen to inspire other young girls in the area to follow their dreams.

“She would definitely advise others keen to start off small. She is more than happy to help others in their applications.”

The 27-year-old hopes to win over the judges at the final on September 16 and 17 and become the new Miss Great Britain.
