AN APPEAL has been lodged against the refusal of a controversial planning application in Duntocher.

As reported in the Post on June 30, the planning committee at West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) refused retrospective permission last month for the siting of containers in the car park of the Glenhead Tavern, at the junction of Dumbarton Road and Beeches Road.

But Pearson Planning, a firm of chartered surveyors working on behalf of the applicant, KMC Tyres and Recovery Ltd, has asked the Scottish Government to overturn the council’s decision.

In the “statement of appeal” sent to the government’s planning and environmental appeals division (DPEA), Euan Pearson from Pearson Planning says the application is in line with policies both in WDC’s existing local development plan and its proposed new development plan for the area.

Mr Pearson also points out that the councillors on the planning committee refused the application against the advice of WDC’s own officials, who said the plans should be given the green light.

DPEA officials have asked their counterparts at the council for a response by July 26, and have set a target date of September 27 for a final decision.
