A CLYDEBANK resident and his friend have unveiled plans to take on the West Highland Way for a sick little girl.

Alex Gunn and Jonny Hanna will be taking on the challenge of walking 96 miles over five days to raise money for nine-year-old Poppy Ogle.

In January 2021 she was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in her head. She immediately started her treatment plan with a cycle of chemotherapy, but this soon came to an abrupt halt due to regrowth of the tumour.

Poppy has since had to undergo multiple extensive surgeries on her head which involved removing the tumour and reconstructing her skull.

Unfortunately the family received the devastating news that the cancer showed spread to her chest and lungs, and Poppy underwent a further two cycles of chemotherapy using a different two drugs than the three used in previous cycles.

Jonny Hanna told the Post: “For the next six weeks, five times per week, Poppy has to have an intensive radiotherapy programme.

“Poppy is a brave, resilient young girl who is able to still show cheerfulness under adversity and the support of her family is second to none.

“This brave girl has battled through all her treatment to date and has been an inspiration to all her friends and family.

“She has endured so much already yet she is still in the relatively early stages of her treatment plan.

“I have been motivated and touched by her generosity while she has been ill, as she has been making up sweet bags and handing them out to the other sick kids in the wards.

“Any donations will support Poppy and her family as they battle this awful disease which has turned their lives upside down emotionally and financially.”

The men are hoping to raise £2,500 to help support Poppy’s family.
