FAMILIES in Drumchapel who benefit from a local charity’s services are being encouraged to take part in its new fund-raising initiative.

3D Drumchapel was established in 1997 to make a difference to the lives of children and families in Drumchapel by providing support, strengthening relationships and empowering families.

The charity was forced to halt all face-to-face activities in line with government guidance at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

Now it is asking those helped by the charity to get involved in its new 3D Raise initiative over the next five months.

Each month will have its own theme and there will be a variety of activities on offer, suitable for all ages.

June is the month of The Wee Waddle, which is all about being outdoors, exploring forests, exercising and having fun as a family.

This week, families are being challenged to undertake a scavenger hunt at their local woods or park to find supplies to create a picture with - whether it be flowers, twigs or acorns.

Next week, from June 14, there will be two groups setting off in the morning, doing continuous laps around Drumchapel Park for one hour, with a play in the park afterwards.

This is open to any families in Drumchapel, Knightswood and Yoker, and sponsorship is optional.

From June 21 there will be a silly hair challenge, where youngsters will be tasked with creating a funny face from paper or cardboard.

And in the final week of June, families will be encouraged to organise their own fun run around their local area or park.

Sarah-Jane Walker, communications and fundraising officer, told the Post: “Charities like ours have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and we wanted to find a way to raise awareness and funds at the same time.

“Sponsorship is not compulsory for this challenge and families can just take part if they wish. The whole point is to get people out in the fresh air.”
