Clydebank residents have supported the idea of local pupils being allowed to watching Scotland's first Scotland Euro 2020 game in schools this afternoon.

The Post asked whether schoolchildren should be allowed to watch the Scotland vs Czech Republic game at 2pm today.

So far, there have been nearly 2,500 responses after we posed the question on our Facebook page.

Carole Richford said: "My daughter's high school is letting children watch it in every classroom and they have to wear blue and can bring flags in. I think it's brilliant that they are involving the kids."

Irene Stewart added: "Yes. It might be once in a lifetime to see Scotland at their best. They were brilliant when I was in secondary school and we were all excited about it."

Mary Hattie said: "Yes of course they should - fun and educational at the same time. Lots of discussion and debating and not to mention social interaction which promotes mental health. Yes yes yes for all of this! C'mon Scotland."

Around 12,000 fans will be heading to Hampden Park in Glasgow to watch the game. Meanwhile, the Euro fan zone at Glasgow Green will welcome 3,000 supporters.

Some people even reflected back to their school days and the antics their teachers got up to.

Caroline Mercer-Healy said: "I had a modern studies teacher who gave us no homework on the day of Scotland or Celtic games (his preferences) and the day after we would have quiet time with the lights off watching informative videos."

Meanwhile Lynn Mcallister said: "When I was at school they made us sit through Princess Ann's wedding, so defo [sic] let them watch the footie."

Whilst Chris Walker added: "My sons school are allowing kids to go to school wearing Scotland tops, kilts, face painting/ flags to watch the game. I had to dog it 23 years ago to watch the Brazil game."

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has also backed the Scotland team.

She tweeted a link to the Fratellis' cover of "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" and wrote "Monday morning tunes. Good luck Scotland National Team. #Euro2020."
