VANDALS have struck at a second nursery playground in Clydebank.

Faifley Community Council (FCC) said the children’s playground at Auchnacraig Nursery was targeted over the weekend.

It’s understood that a two-seater “go kart” toy was stolen, paint was thrown over some of the play equipment, and some of the playground’s toys were broken.

Police received a number of calls between 8-9pm on Saturday regarding youths in the nursery grounds.

Last week the Post reported that the playground at Carleith Primary and ELCC in Duntocher had been trashed by mindless yobs between May 27 and May 31, causing damage estimated at around £5,000.

A spokesperson from FCC said: “The community councillors and the residents of Faifley are angry and upset at what has happened at Auchnacraig Nursery.

“There has been a lot of work put into the children’s play areas by staff, the children and their families. It’s heartbreaking for them.

“Hopefully the community can come together and help get the area restored.”

Resident Gemma Bain said: “This is horrible. The wee ones would have been so upset watching their hard work destroyed. There have been a lot of kids nurseries and schools being trashed.

Whilst Susan Allsop said: “It’s a shame because the staff and children take responsibility of their gardens and it’s trashed within a few hours.

“The children are very upset to see their hard work such as planting destroyed over a weekend.”

Kilpatrick ward councillor Douglas McAllister said he was “utterly disgusted” by another destruction of a nursery playground in his ward.

He said: “I am very concerned this is becoming a pattern.

“The Labour group intends to raise this at council this month. We must, as a matter of urgency, consider increasing the security at our nursery and school sites before the summer recess and consider introducing CCTV if necessary to prevent any further attacks on our children’s playgrounds.

“I also hope the police will be successful with their enquiries to catch those responsible.”

A council spokesperson added: “West Dunbartonshire Council is extremely disappointed by the mindless vandalism to the outdoor area at Auchnacraig Early Learning and Childcare Centre which took place over the weekend.

“This deliberate act has caused a great deal of distress for both staff and children who value their garden for play and learning.”

Anyone with information about the Auchnacraig or Carleith incidents is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
