THE Advertiser's Perfect Pet competition is over and the winner has been crowned.

Jeannette Shortt and her 11-year-old border collie Archie saw off 150 other pets in the competition to gain the local title.

The lovable pup gained 45 votes in the first round of voting, before taking the crown in the second round with 101 votes, meaning Archie received 146 votes overall.

And owner Jeanette is “over the moon” at the news.

She told the Advertiser: “It’s the first thing I’ve ever won in my life, he definitely is a perfect pet.

“I moved into this flat 11 years ago and I just thought it’s time to get another dog - they were advertising puppies from a farm on Renton Road and I went and got him.

“He’s a wee Godsend, a brilliant wee dog. He’s overly intelligent. He loves the TV, at 4pm Tipping Point comes on and he watches, at the weekend he watches Monkey World. He just loves the television.

“He sits in front of the TV and I have to shout “heed!” and he moves his head so I can see.

“About three years ago I had a hip replacement he was a great dog then. If I dropped anything he’d pick it up, he’d go into the kitchen and get me a can of juice. He’s an angel.

“He was company for my dad who was a double amputee. If I went out shopping for dad he’d sit with him and get his papers, and picked anything up for him.

“I’m delighted and over the moon to win.”

Craig Borland, group content editor with Clyde Weekly Press, said: “Congratulations to Archie and Jeannette, and a huge thanks to everybody who entered and voted – with 150 entries, the most we’ve had for many years, it’s clear that the competition is as big a hit with readers as ever.”
