Two reverends from Alloway Parish Church have raised over £9,000 for Christian Aid.

Rev Neil McNaught and Rev David Hume took on their own kiltwalk on April 24, and managed to raise just over £6,000 for the agency, with the Hunter Foundation’s 50 per cent top up pledge taking the total past the £9,000 mark.

The pair walked 10 miles in five hours to raise the funds. Speaking about the support they received, Rev Neil McNaught said: “We really want to give thanks to all our supporters who spurred us on throughout the challenge and everyone who gave us a wee wave whilst we were on the walk.

“It really is an incredible amount of money and we couldn’t have done it without them.

“While we got medals for finishing, they belong to everyone who supported us.

“We also want to say thanks to Sir Tom Hunter because it’s an incredibly kind gesture to donate 50 per cent to what has been raised”.

The gentlemen got the best of the Ayrshire sunshine whilst donning their kilts. “We’re just glad it wasn’t too breezy” Neil added.

Next week is Christian Aid week, highlighting how much work is done by the organisation.

Neil was delighted he could continue his support adding: “It’s great to be able to do what we can, so much hard work gets done.”
