THREE Helensburgh gardens will open to the public this weekend as part of a nationwide charity fund-raising drive.

18 Duchess Park, home of Stewart and Sue Campbell in Queen Street, will welcome visitors on Sunday, May 16 as part of the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

Tom and Patricia Stewart’s High Glenan, also on Queen Street approximately half a mile from its junction with Sinclair Street, will be open too, along with Westburn at 50 Campbell Street.

The annual initiative sees a range of private gardens across Scotland open up to the public to raise money for hundreds of charities.

The Helensburgh gardens will be open between 1pm and 5pm on Sunday, with a £5 admission fee for adults; children go free.

Discounts will apply for members of the Friends of Duchess Wood, Rhu and Shandon Parish Church, and St Michael and All Angels Church.

Short guided wildflower walks in Duchess Wood - where the bluebells should be in bloom - will be offered during the afternoon by the Friends. If the weather is poor, stout shoes are recommended.

There will also be home-made teas at High Glenan and a plant stall at Westburn.
