Two 15-year-olds from Ardrossan have completed a cycle around Millport to raise funds for St Peter in Chains Church.

Ami Paterson and Lucy Skene took on the challenge to support the Ardrossan church because it has been closed during lockdown and missed out on collection money.

The initial idea was Ami’s, who planned to do the cycle with her Papa, and then managed to rope her friend Lucy into joining them on the cycle.

Ami has taken part in fundraisers in the past, including coffee mornings and tray bakes to support the likes of Ayrshire Hospice and the SSPCA.

Ami’s mum, Maria, says that she has a knack for making on-the-spot decisions to take part in fundraising ideas.

Maria said: “She hates sitting around and she always wants to help.

“She said to me one day about how the church must have been missing out on money during lockdown.

“Next thing I know I was setting up a JustGiving page for her cycle around Millport”.

Ami has been involved in the church since she was in primary four and has been fundraising for various charities since she was eight.

Maria added: “I’m very proud of everything Ami has achieved, even so far in her wee short life.

“The church family have been extremely generous and they’ve been extremely grateful of the girls’ efforts as well.

“The girls want to thank all their support team as well for helping them through it.”

They managed to raise a fabulous £430 in two weeks.

Well done, girls, from all at the Herald team.
