A CLYDEBANK sex predator raped a sleeping woman – while he was on bail in connection with a similar attack.

Andrew Kane, 21, pounced on the victim at his home in the town on October 3 last year.

The 20 year-old awoke to find her clothes pulled down and Kane having sex with her.

After the woman protested she had been sleeping, the rapist stated: "That is not the first time someone has told me that."

The High Court in Glasgow heard on Tuesday how Kane had previously struck on February 23, 2020.

He was at a house in the city's Drumchapel when he later lay beside this first victim.

Both then appeared to be sleeping.

But, similar to the later victim, the 21-year-old woman woke up and found her trousers at her ankles.

Kane was confronted about what happened, but he soon left his crying victim.

Prosecutor Blair Speed said Kane was arrested the next day.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on February 25 charged with the rape, and was freed on bail.

This meant he was back on the streets – and was able to attack the second woman months later.

Tuesday's hearing was told how the later victim hid in a bathroom until Kane had gone.

She was described as "visibly upset and shaking".

First offender Kane pleaded guilty to both rape charges on Tuesday.

His lawyer Sean Templeton told the court: "He wants me to convey his deepest apologies to both of these young women."

Lady Stacey remanded him in custody and deferred sentencing until next month for reports.
