PLANS for 28 homes on the site of the fire-hit former Yoker Primary School have been given the go-ahead.

Yoker Housing Association will build the new houses on Craggan Drive.

The former janitor’s house will be demolished as part of the redevelopment.

“Developing the former Yoker Primary School site will enable Yoker Housing Association to provide more quality housing stock while improving the local area,” the application states.

The primary school was closed in June 2017 and demolished in 2019 following a suspicious fire. The janitor’s house was vacated in October 2019.

Glasgow City Council is selling the land to the housing association, which has offices within a 10-minute walk.

The houses will be built around two “communal spaces”, with planting and parking spaces. There is set to be 28 spaces for cars.

“These communal open spaces are more than just a token gesture,” the plans add.

“They create an open and welcoming space where people can socialise and play outwith their own private outdoor space.”

In the north west corner of the site, there will be a children’s play area, with timber equipment.

Yoker Primary and nearby Garscadden Primary both closed in 2017, with pupils moving in to the new Clyde Primary campus, which is shared with St Brendan's Primary and Yokerburn Nursery.
