VITAL NHS staff facing a move from their current Clydebank base have warned there has been “no meaningful consultation” on the plan.

Members of the Unison union said despite the move of NHS 24 from the Golden Jubilee in Dalmuir being on the agenda for “some time”, they were continually told there was “no update”.

Last year we reported the Golden Jubilee needed NHS 24 to find a new base for their call centre so they could expand their own services.

Fears were raised the 470 jobs could be moved to Renfrewshire with difficult or no transport links for workers, particularly on late-night shifts.

But assurances were given by MP Martin Docherty-Hughes that the council-owned Aurora House could be the likely new home, keeping the jobs locally.

Unison said they have only just completed a lengthy dispute over the facilities at Aurora House used by social workers. And they warned more union involvement was needed before yet more staff were based there.

A spokesman for Unison West Dunbartonshire told the Post: “We are aware that a potential move has been on the agenda for some time now and our representatives have regularly requested updates on any progress, continually being told that there is no update available.

“Unison members working in a range of departments based within Aurora House have expressed their concern over the uncertainty of the situation.

“Moreover, social work members have only recently ended a formal dispute which lasted over two years, from which accommodation was, and remains, a major issue.”

In response, the council deferred to the NHS for updates.

A spokeswoman said: “We advised our trade union colleagues and our employees of the discussions with NHS 24 in February 2020 and the details of this, and committed to providing a further update once a location was confirmed. The position remains that no decision has been made by the NHS.”

NHS 24 insisted their consultation was “comprehensive” and insisted the jobs would stay in the area.

Their spokeswoman said: “NHS 24 launched a comprehensive programme of engagement with both staff and trade unions on the relocation of our Clyde Contact Centre following receipt of a notice to vacate our premises from within the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.

“While no decision has been made yet on the location of our new centre, it has been agreed that it will be within the Clydebank area.”
