PLANS have been submitted to build social housing on a former bowling green in Whitecrook.

Clydebank Bowling Club closed one of their greens last year in John Knox Street and the site could now be home to 18 flats on behalf of Clydebank Housing Association.

The new properties would be near the site of the former St Andrews High which has been transformed by housing nearing completion.

There would be eight, one-bed and 10, two-bed flats in the three-storey structure, as well as parking and open space.

Sharon Keenan, chief executive of Clydebank Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to be working with The JR Group on this project.

"The association’s management committee is committed to increasing its affordable rented housing stock for the benefit of current and future tenants and this development would go some way to meeting the high demand for social housing in our area."

Andrew Dallas, project director of the Paisley-based JR Group, said they were working with MAST Architechts and Cowal Design.

He said: “We’re also delighted to be working with Clydebank Housing Association as part of this project. This is the second time we have worked with the organisation, following a successful refurbishment of the CHA’s head office in Kilbowie Road last year.

“We will now work with West Dunbartonshire Council in efforts to take these plans forward and are confident, if plans were to be approved, that this social housing development will be a welcome boost to this already popular area.”

The application was submitted on February 8 to West Dunbartonshire Council but is listed as "invalid on receipt" on the local authority's planning website.

A bid for the site will be for 11 John Knox Street, Clydebank G81 1ND.
