A WOMAN has denied murdering her husband at their flat in Clydebank.

Lorna Middleton, 35, is accused of murdering 38-year-old William Middleton at an address in Singer Street on June 26, 2020.

It's alleged that she struck him on the body with a knife or similar instrument, scratched his face and neck with a sharp instrument, and compressed her neck.

Prosecutors also allege that Ms Middleton refused police officers access to the flat and prevented her husband, who was originally from Dumbarton and was known as Billy, from receiving medical assistance.

At a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, defence QC Donald Findlay entered a not guilty plea on Ms Middleton's behalf and entered a special defence of self-defence.

Prosecutor Blair Speed said: “The trial is estimated to take seven days.”

The case was continued until April in the hope that a trial date can be fixed.

Judge Lady Stacey told Middleton: “Due to the pandemic I can't fix a trial.

"I hope by the next diet we will be able to give you a date for trial, but I can't guarantee it.”

Middleton, who is on remand, also denies behaving in an abusive or threatening manner at the flat and attempting to head-butt Constable John Muir.
