A WEATHER warning for snow and ice is in place in Clydebank from Wednesday morning as freezing temperatures take hold across much of Scotland once again.

The Met Office ‘be aware’ yellow warning is in place across almost all of mainland Scotland, and much of northern England, from 8am on January 13 until 9pm on Thursday, January 14.

The forecaster says that heavy snow may affect parts of the area where the warning is in place, with possible significant travel disruption.

Effects could include travel delays, stranded vehicles and passengers on some higher routes, potential road closures, delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, power cuts, interruptions to mobile phone coverage, and dangerous or impassable pavements and cycle paths.

The forecast for the Clydebank area, as of first thing on Wednesday morning, is for temperatures one or two degrees above freezing point – though when wind chill is taken into account, it may feel as low as minus three degrees Centigrade on Wednesday.

Heavy rain is likely in the area throughout the day, possibly turning to sleet or snow in the low temperatures.

Thursday is expected to be drier and very slightly milder, though the generally low temperatures are likely to continue into Friday.
