A LINNVALE man has won an NHS award for providing healthy meals to hospital patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

Allan Campbell, a chef de partie in the catering department at Dalmuir’s NHS Golden Jubilee hospital for more than 15 years, won the support worker prize at the Golden Jubilee Staff Awards for providing an excellent service during the coronavirus pandemic.

He told the Post: “I was over the moon when I found out. I wasn’t expecting it at all. Cooking has always been a passion of mine and once I got the job I have never looked back.

“When I was told I was one of three nominated I was taken aback. It even brought a wee tear to my mum’s eye. It was such a proud moment for me.”

Allan revealed that a classic steak pie is one of the most demanded meals in the hospital.

“I am a firm believer that meals have to be cooked to a high standard,” he continued.

“I try my best to make food that will satisfy the feedback that patients give me. I always want to do more to help.

The event was presented by STV broadcaster Rona Dougall, while guest award presenters included BBC broadcaster Jackie Bird, Still Game actors Gavin Mitchell and Mark Cox, and comedian Fred MacAulay.

The pre-recorded event premiered on the NHS Golden Jubilee YouTube channel, featuring short biographies and footage of the 38 finalists chosen by the judging panel.

Susan Douglas-Scott, chair of the NHS Golden Jubilee board, said: “It’s really important that we get the opportunity to say thank you to our amazing Golden Jubilee staff, individuals and teams.

“The awards highlight the people who were nominated and it is also an opportunity for me to thank each and every single member of Team Jubilee for everything they do, day in day out for the people of Scotland.”
