VITAL resurfacing on a major Clydebank road is underway.

West Thomson Street has been plagued for years as one of the busiest routes between Kilbowie Primary and Clydebank Health Centre.

Last year it was branded a "disgrace" by campaigners but West Dunbartonshire Council officials said they were unaware of its condition.

The road was closed last weekend and will be again for the next two, between Kilbowie Road and Granville Street, to minimise disruption to the school and health centre.

Councillor John Mooney welcomed the progress to improve the street.

A spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council confirmed: "In order for essential resurfacing work to be undertaken, West Thomson Street will be closed between Kilbowie Road and Granville Street on the weekends of November 14-15 and November 21-22.

"This work is being carried out over weekends to avoid impacting access to the school and health centre in the area.

"A diversion route will be in place until the works are complete.

"We thank motorists for their patience while we update the road network."
