A collab could be on the cards between a Glasgow band and the biggest ever global female popstar to come from Brazil.

Belle and Sebastian, one of Scotland's most successful indie bands, have sparked up a conversation with Anitta, who has apparently been a fan of their music for the last six years.

Back in 2014, the singer, whose latest hits include “Me Gusta” with Cardi B and Myke Towers and “Tócame” feat. Arcangel & De La Ghetto, told her followers that she loved the Glasgow band.

And now, Belle and Sebastian have finally responded to their fanmail - hoping it isn't too late to get involved with the writing action.

Writing in Portuguese, the band's lead singer, Stuart Murdoch, said: "Hello, can I write a song for you? Or is it too late?"

After a bewildered, prompt response from Anitta, he added: "Hi Anitta! I saw your tweet from 2014, we are fans of yours over here in Scotland.

"If ever you want us to play or write for you, consider us your band! Sending love."

But it turns out he hasn't quite missed the boat, with Anitta replying almost immediately: "Waiiiit... I'm the fan here! Thannnnks and YES I accept."

And she later told her 12 million followers that it is the "beginning of a dream".

The tweets have amassed thousands of likes from Scots and Brazilians alike, who are all looking for a potential collab between the two successes.

Andrew Downie wrote: "This is great. Anitta and Belle and Sebastian to team up."

And another Twitter user said: "I'm so happy to see you being recognized even by your idols. you deserve so much every good thing in your career."

The Glasgow Times has approached both of the artist's record labels for comment.
