Vandals set fire to a donation bags outside a Drumchapel charity shop at the weekend.

Smoke from the blaze outside the Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland store at the Drumchapel Hub caused severe damage inside. It will cost upwards of £800 to repair.

The store near Kinfauns Drive will also lose approximately £1,400 in income as they are forced to remain closed all week.

Shop staff were left shocked and saddened after discovering the damage to the inside of their popular store.

Linda Hull, shop manager at Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland’s Drumchapel store, said: “We were deeply saddened to discover the damage that had happened to our shop over the weekend.

“Our shops are vital in raising funds to help people in our communities who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live their lives to the full. A heartless act like this takes money away from helping the people who desperately need our support."

Throughout lockdown their 45 stores were closed, and all fundraising events have been postponed, which resulted in the charity losing £500,000 per month of income.

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland is asking the local community to rally round and do what they can to support the store. They are asking for people to donate bags of stock including clothes, accessories and bric-a-brac or volunteer their time to help with the day-to-day running of the store.

Ms Hull added: “If people have been having a clear out, we would love if they could drop their pre-loved items off at the store to help us replenish our shelves.

"We are also desperately in need of new volunteers to help run the store. Anything they can do to support would be really appreciated at this time.”
