PLANS to turn a former Govan bank into a restaurant have been approved by Glasgow City Council.

Sava Estates’ has been granted permission to convert the former TSB on Govan Road.

It is being marketed for let, although offers to buy would be considered, by Culverwell.

The ground floor and basement of the B-listed building, originally the Glasgow Savings Bank, can now be used as a restaurant.

“Given that there are few other significant uses on this part of Govan Road, this new restaurant in this feature building will contribute very positively to the character of the area and become a local icon,” the application stated.

Rent offers in excess of £19,000 per year are invited – or bids over £149,000 to purchase.

A restaurant would be able to open from 10am to 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10am to midnight from Friday to Saturday.

“When constructed this building would have been a major feature on Govan Road,” the plans stated.

“It would have been designed as to be a corner feature linking what then would have been tenemental properties on both Govan Road and Broomloan Road.

“It is now the only remaining building of that period and links to modern residential flatted accommodation on both gables.

“Given the raised cill levels and the large windows, the restaurant will have a particularly attractive ambience and offer a quality dining experience.”
