A GLASGOW Asda store has been slammed for failing to block off part of its toilets to allow for social distancing.

A customer at the Robroyston store was shocked to discover all three of the urinals inside the men’s bathroom were available for use.

While health officials advise a distance of two metres is maintained between individuals where possible, many eateries and stores have blocked off stalls and urinals in their toilets.

However, the north east store hasn’t followed suit.

“There are no social distancing measures in the toilet nor any wording indicating how many people are allowed inside at any one time, said Councillor Paul Carey upon visiting the store.

He continued: “There were three men inside the toilet when I entered so I just turned around and walked away.

“Other places that I’ve been in the last few weeks, including cinemas and a pub, have chosen to block out a urinal to ensure people are two metres apart - so why aren’t Asda doing this?”

A spokesman for the supermarket chain said: “We know that safety remains a key priority for our customers and we will continue to do all we can to keep them and our colleagues safe in store, as we have since the start of the pandemic.

"We have extensive measures in place such as protective screens, social distancing signage and numerous hand sanitiser stations across all our stores.

"We have social distance signage at the entrance to our toilets as a reminder for customers and given the short amount of time spent visiting our toilets, and with the option of using cubicles, we would like to reassure customers that it is safe to use the toilets in our stores.”

A number of changes have been implemented throughout the retail chain since the pandemic began, including the introduction of safety screens, marshals and hand sanitising stations.

The retailer also placed a antimicrobial coating to its trolley and basket handles to help limit the spread of bacteria and viruses.

Customers are urged to follow social distancing at all times and are required to comply with the current face mask regulations.
