A THIEF armed with a screw driver has targeted a Knightswood garden to carefully remove solar lighting from a fence.

Knightswood woman Nicky McAllister was left devastated after she discovered the lights were nicked overnight from her beautiful garden on Moorhouse Avenue on Sunday between 2 am and 8 am.

Having spent a considerable amount of time working on the garden during lockdown, Nicky reported the theft to the police in a bid to find the green-fingered culprit responsible for theft.

She said: “We had four solar fence lights which were each fixed to the fence post via two screws each.

“So whoever took them has came with the correct size screwdriver, took out all eight screws and stolen the four lights - and even took the screws with them.”

Nicky explained that several other residents in the area have complaint about thefts in their gardens with pot plants and solar lighting stolen elsewhere.

She added: “This isn’t the first time I’ve had stuff stolen. We’ve had garden ornaments and decorative solar lamp posts stolen before.

“I’ve spent the whole of lockdown in my garden, making it look nice and well maintained.

“I had only just finished staining the fence a few weeks ago that the lights were stolen from.”

Nicky also admits the fact a prowler was in her garden has made her feel uneasy at home.

She said: “Someone has invaded our garden, been on our private property and prowling about our garden.

“It leaves you anxious and worrying about what else they will do next.”

Nicky hopes her story will raise awareness of the thefts in the area in a bid to encourage others to report the issue to the police.

She said: “A lot of people are telling me they have had similar items stolen over the last couple of weeks - but they haven’t reported it.

“We need everyone to report this matter as then the police will see the true number of people in the area having people prowling about their gardens.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report of theft of solar lights from a garden on Moorhouse Avenue, Glasgow, that happened overnight on Sunday, July 26. Enquiries are ongoing.”
