THE VAT reduction for the hospitality and tourism sector has been welcomed by an area MSP.
Around 6,400 jobs across West Dunbartonshire are in restaurants, hotels and distribution, and Maurice Golden MSP says Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s recent move is a significant boost to the hospitality and tourism sector.
Now, with the reduction in VAT to five per cent for restaurants, pubs, cafes, cinemas, zoos and attractions among others, there is the hope that they will still salvage a summer season and jobs will be able to be protected for the long-term.
Maurice Golden, West Scotland MSP, said: “The tourism and hospitality sector are critically important for the economy in West Dunbartonshire.
“The reduction in VAT is a massive shot in the arm for our hospitality sector and will encourage greater spending power.
“It is up to everyone to give their backing, and I’ll certainly be doing that.”
