VALE of Leven Hospital has been chosen as an Acute Phlebotomy Hub used for those giving blood samples to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The local health board has made it possible for patients to give blood samples by creating the new Hub away from the main clinic waiting areas at hospitals, as part of their response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Individuals giving blood samples made up almost one third of patient traffic at NHSGGC hospitals.

Chris Deighan, deputy medical director, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “Patients are now able to give blood samples again and will be directed to our new Hubs to do so.

“We’re trying to make it safe and convenient for patients to give blood samples as we respond to COVID-19. This has involved the redesign of some of our services to reduce the number of people entering our hospitals.”

The Hub at VOL Hospital is designed to maintain social distancing.
