Dumbarton manager Jim Duffy has been discharged from hospital after suffering a heart attack last weekend.

The 61-year-old was experiencing chest pains and tests showed that he had suffered from a heart attack.

He was later moved to a specialist cardiac unit in a Glasgow hospital.

The Reporter understands that the Sons boss is “feeling better” and will continue his recovery at his home.

In a statement, Dumbarton FC said: “We are glad to advise our supporters, and all well-wishers, that our manager Jim Duffy has returned home to continue his recovery from his recent heart attack.

“The boss suffered the health scare at the weekend, and after a few days in hospital, is now at home resting and recuperating.

“We continue to wish Jim a full and speedy recovery, and as always, we are grateful for all the good wishes that have been communicated to us since the news emerged.”

Teams, players, pundits and supporters across the country have taken to social media to send well wishes to the former Morton manager.

John Steele, Dumbarton chairman, believes that the reaction and messages from the footballing world shows how well respected he is in the game.

Steele told the club’s website: “Everybody at Dumbarton FC is hugely shocked that Jim has suffered this setback to his health, but we are glad and relieved to note that he is recovering well.

“The reaction there has been since last night shows how popular Jim is - not only at Dumbarton, but across Scottish football and beyond.

“We are extremely grateful to all who have been in touch to register their good wishes for Jim.

“Every single message we have received is appreciated.

“We know that Jim is in the best possible hands to recover. The past few months have shown how priceless our National Health Service is to us all.

“Jim also has a loving family and countless friends who will rally round him during this time.

“And of course the club will do whatever it can to support him and his family.

“Once Jim has made a full recovery, we feel absolutely sure we will see him back on the training pitch and in the dugout - and we look forward to that happening.”

Duffy joined the club in October 2018, following the dismissal of previous boss Stevie Aitken, and revealed last month that he is keen to extend his Sons contract, which expires today (Tuesday), once normality returns to the Scottish game after the coronavirus lockdown.
