TWO pupils at St Stephen’s Primary in Parkhall have been celebrated as Sports Stars for June.

Dean Doyle and Ellis McGeough were recognised as part of the local schools’ Active Schools initiative.

Dean, a trained play leader who actively encourages younger pupils to get involved with playground games and activities, is also a keen runner, footballer and plays netball, participating in all sports offered to his age group.

He has represented St Stephen’s Primary at cross-country, football and netball events during 2019 and earlier this year.

He was recognised as a Sports Star because he “always takes part with determination, grit, perseverance and a huge smile on his face”.

Ellis is a talented competitive dancer and throughout lockdown she has been practicing and helping her younger sisters to prepare for future competitions.

Ellis has joined Dean in being a play leader and representing the school in competing in cross-country and netball.

She received recognition for “helping younger children to have an even more enjoyable time in the playground by providing games for them”.

The council is always looking for more volunteers to help get children in West Dunbartonshire more active, more often.
