TWO long lost friends have finally reunited after 50 years, thanks to a Clydebank Post led search.

Steve Winder, 70, of Heywood, in Greater Manchester, contacted the Post in search of Harold and Margaret Gaffney - two pals he last saw in 1968.

Harold and Margaret married, and moved to Clydebank where they had a child named Walter David, who was born in 1969 in Old Kilpatrick.

Walter got in touch with the Post to let us know that his mother saw Steve’s call in the paper and wished to reach out to him.

Steve, after speaking on the phone to Margaret, told the Post: “Having emailed Walter, he put me in touch with his Mum & we have spoken on the phone for the first time in over 50 years. Memories came flooding back for me.

“Unfortunately, though her husband Harold who I was wanting to re-engage with passed a few years ago, so, I’m afraid my search has ended. Still, it’s nice to know that she is doing well, retired like me, & enjoying life. Bless her!”

Margaret’s son Walter said: “Mum said it was lovely to catch up on a lot of what has passed. She was delighted to hear from Steve, and they have exchanged contact details and addresses and will hopefully meet up in the future when it is safe to do so.”
