A SELFLESS Clydebank taxi driver overcame his fear of dogs to help a distressed pet owner to the vet with her dying companion.

The dog’s owner received a phone call from her mum to say their 12-year-old Labrador named Honey was ill.

The animal lover then rushed to her mum’s home to discover her four-legged loved one could no longer even move her tail.

The dog owner, who asked not to be named, told the Post: “It was her time I’m afraid.

“I went to my mum’s and phoned the 5055 number, explained my situation, and said I would need help lifting her into the taxi.

“When the driver came to pick us up, he wasn’t told about the situation and was in a bit of a flutter as he said he wasn’t keen on dogs. But when he saw her lying on her bed not able to move, he very kindly helped us into his taxi, with her still in her bed.

“He helped us out with her at Boyce & Houston vets, and would not take a penny for his services.”

And now the dog owner would love to reach out to the mysterious taxi driver to offer her thanks.

She said: “I was in a mess and never got to thank him properly.

“He deserves a bit of recognition for being so kind.

“These are worrying times just now and he didn’t need to do what he did.

“He’s a good soul. I hope he and his family stay safe.

“I’d just like to say a big thank you from my family.”
