ALMOST no new “for sale” listings have been posted for properties in Clydebank for nearly a month, according to data released this week.

GetAgent.co.uk, an estate agent comparison site, has released an interactive real-time dashboard of how the property market is performing under the pressure of the pandemic and the lockdown, both nationally and at postcode level.

In G81 (Clydebank), a total of 17 property listings were added to Rigthmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket during the week beginning March 2 and then again the week of March 16-22.

But after lockdown was announced, this fell to one the week beginning March 30, none the following two weeks, and two last week.

Elsewhere, in G82 (Dumbarton), listings went from 22 in the week beginning March 9, to none for nearly a whole month – March 30 to April 26.

As a whole, West Dunbartonshire has been one of the worst-hit areas in the UK with a reduction of 92 per cent in listings, meanwhile, West Lancashire in England saw a reduction of only 26 per cent.

Colby Short, of GetAgent.co.uk, said: “The varied list of areas to have seen both some of the highest and lowest levels of listing decline demonstrates the varied makeup of the UK market, as well as the erratic impact the spread of coronavirus is having.

“In some areas, such as West Dunbartonshire, the market has pretty much dropped off a cliff since the lockdown was implemented, whereas other areas have seen a decline but continue to register more robust levels of new listings.

“This is certainly due to influences such as a high concentration of new-builds, with many developers having to keep selling due to the fact that they have money tied into developments and interest repayments to make.

“Many new build developers also have the benefit of selling empty properties which makes social distancing measures easier, while many new build buyers, particularly those from overseas are happier to transact based on a virtual viewing.”
