BANKIE Marti Pellow has dedicated a song to some “wonderful” Clydebank ladies who are raising funds for local carers and the NHS.

The former Wet Wet Wet star took to Twitter and uploaded a video of him singing alongside the caption: “I’m sure you’ll know this one… ANGEL EYES is for the wonderful girls from my hometown of Clydebank who are raising money for PPE for our NHS angels. If you would like to donate, that would be amazing.”

In the clip, he says: “I’ve been asked by a couple of Bankie girls, and that’s close to me because I’m from Clydebank. “They’re raising some money for essential PPE for home carers and care home workers and the NHS.

“They’re raising money to help, and that’s what it's all about. It’s fantastic.”

Anne Henderson, Jacqui Mersey, Karen Mersey, Liz McGoldrick and Nicola Grieve have set up a JustGiving page that has raised more than £3,100 so far.

A statement on the page read: “Every day, thousands of people are leaving their homes and families to go and care for our loved ones.

“They’re putting themselves at risk every time that they step outside the safety of their front doors. We’re trying to raise a minimum of £3,500 (obviously we would love to raise more) to buy essential PPE for local carers and the NHS.

“We’re hoping to start with reusable visors and depending on people’s generosity, much more.

“If you can donate, it does not matter how much, every single penny will count. We have a supplier lined up; we just need the funds to buy.”

Thanks to Marti’s help, the ladies reached their original target of £2,500.

They wrote: “Thanks to a certain Mr Pellow this afternoon, we’ve hit our £2,500 target.

“There’s so many people needing our help right now and we will keep going as long as funds are coming in and we are receiving requests.

“Thank you so much for donating, you don’t know how much it means to us but the response and the thanks we receive when we hand this PPE over to frontline workers is just priceless.”
