Bankies were left “saddened” last bank holiday weekend when sharp tacks were placed along the canal path near Clydebank Retail Park.

The malicious act was discovered when Angela Cranwell, local funeral arranger for Dalmuir Funeralcare, went to enjoy some of the sun on her daily walk with her partner at around 11am on Easter Monday.

Angela told the Post: “We noticed a wee trail glinting in the sun and picked up around 20 [tacks] lined in a row.

“Normally we would have our dog with us so that’s why I was initially so concerned. We picked up what we could see.

“As we kept walking, we could see more and more and in the end I reckon there must have been around 150 which we picked up.

“We alerted any passing cyclists and dog walkers that we could see, and we met a couple of cyclists at Halfords who’d been affected by them in front of us.

“They were stunned, as it explained why they had punctures.”

She added: “There was no way that was a random spill, we reckon they were spread out over half a mile in a relative straight line.

“We were really worried for the potential effects on dogs and of course cyclists and beggared belief that someone had clearly thought this one out, especially in these times.”

Angela said: “As a funeral arranger, I see the terrible effects these challenging times can have on families and the daily exercise is one of the few luxuries we have, but aside from that it’s so sad that anyone could be so unkind.

“Life is too short for unkindness.”

Angela shared pictures of the tack on a community Facebook page, with readers quick to share their outrage.

One comment read: “Evil! What is actually wrong with people?” While another person responded: “I stood on one and it went right through my trainer.”
