LOCAL primary school pupils recently put their skills on display at a rugby festival held at Dumbarton Academy.

The young sports stars from St Patrick's, St Kessog's, St Michael's, St Peter's, Knoxland, Dalreoch, Braehead and Aitkenbar showed off their rugby prowess by taking part in the round robin format competition, with each team receiving curricular rugby sessions in the lead up to the big matches.

3rd year sports leaders from Dumbarton Academy helped out with some refereeing, being trained on how to officiate each match by Ewan Todd from Loch Lomond Rugby Club.

The event was held by Active Schools, a sportscotland partnership that encourages youngsters across the country to become more involved with sport and physical activity.

Emma McCluskey, Active Schools coordinator, commented: "Thanks to our sports leaders from Dumbarton Academy and a huge well done to all pupils who took part - some excellent rugby skills were on display!

"Good luck to Braehead and St Patrick's in the final next month!"
